The Ballad of Jane Principal

Jane Principal’s father was murdered by a madman on her twenty-first birthday in 1812 and her mother re-married soon after. Jane was nearly thirty before she herself married. Her husband Edgar had little money of his own, but her’s enabled them to move away from London, leaving behind the few friends and family she had, to the depths of the countryside. The tiny village on the coast had a summer reputation, but in winter it was bleak and isolated. It would not be true to say that this was when the trouble started, for she still mourned her father’s death and disliked her stepfather, but her difficulties were about to get much worse.

Would history repeat itself? Justice? Revenge? Or was Edgar as much a victim as Jane?

Could Elijah Smith solve the mystery?
